Tower: Straws and Pipecleaners

The purpose of this project was to build the tallest structure to carry a tennis ball.

A variety of materials such as, pipe cleaners, straws

and paper clips had to be used to create a structure that could hold up a tennis ball.

The class was put into groups that had to build structures together.

When completing this project, I learnt that pipe cleaners even though are very to shape, which is good in some cases, are very weak. So are straws, they bend very easily, and are not very sturdy.

In my group, we used the straws provided as the members. The pipe cleaners were our bottom and top base.

In the end, our structure was able to stand holding a ball for a certain amount of time that was needed. It took a while to try to balance the structure, but when it did, we were very glad. Even though I know we could have done a better job, I am very proud of what we accomplished.
